Music Video Promotion Case Study

Artist: Templeton Thompson
Video: “When I Get That Pony Rode”

Singer / songwriter Templeton Thompson approached AristoVideo in early 2013 looking for marketing and promotion help on her new video project, “When I Get That Pony Rode.” An earthy song with a wonderfully bluesy hook, “When I Get That Pony Rode” carried recognizable passion in both the song and the video. As an independent artist without the backing of a major label, a monitored radio push is tough over the long haul and video can help secure impressions, achieve exposure and build awareness through a branding strategy that works.

Templeton, an in-demand Nashville session vocalist and songwriter – Reba and Jo Dee Messina have cut her songs – has a passion for horses and is a proud ambassador for EAGALA (The Equine Assisted Growth & Learning Association). The “When I Get That Pony Rode” showcases this passion with a true-to-life feel. We were immediately drawn to the authenticity of the video and knew others would be as well. We pitched and secured a World Premiere on as part of their Tuesday online series Independent’s Day.

Engaging the equestrian community and enlisting blog support, the video was streamed more than 10,000 times during its first week online to result in high profile positioning on Templeton reached the #1 spot on Artists.CMT, ranked as the #13 overall artist on the week of February 18, 2013 and was also featured in an online Video Spotlight. More than 17,500 views have been counted on alone as of May 1, 2013 while also generating more than 9,300 Facebook “Likes” during that time.

Using the online success at to help establish the project’s overall story, we leveraged this success into specialty airings on GAC during their on-air program Daily Countdown. With the ability for fan voting on GAC’s Daily Countdown, we once again pushed to the equestrian community to support Templeton. The response was so strong that “When I Get That Pony Rode” was voted into the GAC’s Daily Countdown for seven straight weeks. With fan demand high, we pitched and secured an interview for Templeton on the show.

“I am so humbled and overjoyed by the reaction we’ve experienced with this video,” said Thompson in a press release serviced by our sister department, AristoPR. “When we shot the video, I believed we had a great product, but I never imagined we would see so much love and support from fans from all over the world.”

The AristoMedia Group comprises several unique, independent departments to cover any client requests as add-on services with an additional fee; AristoVideo, AristoPR, AristoWorks, Marco Music Group (secondary radio promotion) and Marco Club Connection.

In addition to GAC and, we secured exposure on The Country Network (TCN) and The Nashville Network (TNN). We serviced the video to a panel of more than 150 video outlets (incl. national, syndicated, closed-circuit, Internet / blog and regional outlets) and highlights include placement in retail / entertainment venues such as casinos and bars as well as support on more than 25 Regional television programs as of May 1, 2013. This includes programs that air on local FOX affiliates in Dothan, Beaumont, Abilene and San Angelo as well as local CBS and The CW affiliates in Beaumont. Other key DMA exposure includes Louisville, Atlanta, Raleigh-Durham, Denver, San Francisco, Las Vegas and of course, Nashville.

The video was shot and directed by Cindy Meehl, the award-winning director of Buck.

While different projects yield different results, Templeton’s “When I Get That Pony Rode” video is just one example of a recent project by AristoVideo that generated significant activity and helped establish an emerging artist at the National, Closed Circuit, Internet / Blog and Regional levels.
